The Growth of the US Open as a Premier Event

Founded in 1881 as one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, the US Open has evolved far beyond its beginnings in Newport, Rhode Island. Today, it is a premier event, drawing celebrities, influencers and prominent guests to celebrate not only world-class tennis but also the vibrant social scene that surrounds it. This year’s tournament, following the Summer Olympics, capitalized on the global excitement for sports and the patriotic spirit of the US.

In 2023, the US Open broke records, welcoming over 957,000 fans across its 20-day duration. This year, the event surpassed expectations, hosting over 1 million spectators. A key driver of this growth was the inaugural US Open Fan Fest, offering exclusive grounds passes, enhanced activities, and live on-court viewing parties. The tournament has become much more than just a sporting event as it started; it is now a multi-day social experience, where fans gather with friends and family to enjoy the lively atmosphere, exceptional dining and signature delights like the iconic Honey Deuce cocktail.

ROSSETTI has served as the architect for the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center since 1990, spearheading the design of Arthur Ashe Stadium, campus planning and adding new stadiums, practice courts, restaurants, retail spaces and branded activations.
