Upon completion in 1987, Hard Rock Stadium became a prime location for football and concerts. Over time, the Miami Dolphins envisioned more for the 250-acre suburban site. The stadium was an island unto itself, aspiring to be a 24/7, 365 destination. ROSSETTI assisted ownership with planning, visualizing, and designing new assets throughout the stadium campus. These have been designed to strategically interact with each other, when and where appropriate, while allowing each venue to also take on a personality of its own. Part of the vision has been to create and take advantage of “different time zones” to transform the campus into a multi-event destination.
Having just finished another year at Hard Rock Stadium, the design of the Miami Open tennis complex is inspired by local nightlife and showcases an elevated sports experience. The master plan strategically integrates several permanent tennis court stadiums of various sizes along with additional event-specific temporary stadium structures. The permanent and temporary venues were designed to incorporate innovative modular components that saved construction time and money without compromising features or aesthetics.
The Miami Dolphins’ new training facility was the result of wanting to bring all of the team’s football and business operations to one place. This new facility is indicative of the Miami Dolphins organization’s goals and is a key element in activating the stadium campus throughout the year. The exterior of the facility features clean lines and a cool color palette that are similar to that of Hard Rock Stadium, helping the facility to blend into the greater stadium campus. Its form simply expresses the efficiency of training on the inside, while a large glass main entry creates excitement at the approach of the building.
As part of the expansion in the United States, the Miami Dolphins welcomed Formula One to the Hard Rock Stadium campus. This aligns with the goal of transforming the campus into a global entertainment location with a diverse range of events throughout the year. Understanding that most motorsports events are not solely about the race, ROSSETTI built off the existing master plan to establish concepts that create a unique Miami racing experience. The team’s insight and use of innovative tools built a new brand and generated excitement for the event. The result is a true spectacle of Miami culture that challenges the status quo of Formula One races.
